On March 18, 2020, Governor Abbott issued a proclamation authorizing political subdivisions, including school districts, holding elections on May, 2, 2020, to postpone those elections to the November 3, 2020 uniform election date in the interest of preserving public health and safety in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 31, 2020, the San Felipe Del Rio CISD Board of Trustees approved an Order to Postpone the May 2, 2020 Board Election to the November 3, 2020 General Election in light of the Governor’s Proclamation and COVID-19.
School Board Election Update
School Board elections will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for the following postitions:
- Place II Currently held by Joshua D. Overfelt
- Place VI Currently held by Diana Gonzales
- Place VII Currently held by Amy Haynes
In accordance with the Order to Postpone the Election, candidate filings for the May 2, 2020 election will remain valid for the November 3, 2020 election. The filing period will not be re-opened for the November election date. The ballot order draw conducted on February 24, 2020 will remain the same for the November 3, 2020 election. The results of the drawing for the following positions and the order as it is to appear on the ballot is as follows:

The San Felipe Del Rio CISD Board of Trustees is comprised of seven community members who are elected at‐large for four‐year terms. The SFDRCISD Board of Trustees functions within the legal parameters of the state and federal constitutions, statutes, courts, and administrative agencies. The Board is charged with the responsibility of providing the finest educational program possible for the students in the district. Trustees adopt a budget which is necessary to maintain and operate the schools, levy taxes to support the budget, and submit bond issues to the citizens of the district to finance construction projects.
School Board elections will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020, for the following positions:

- Place VI Currently held by Diana Gonzales
- Place VII Currently held by Amy Haynes
In accordance with the election calendar set by the Texas Secretary of State, the candidate filing period for the May 2, 2020 San Felipe Del Rio CISD School Board of Trustee Election begins Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. The last day to file a completed application is Friday, February 14, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Persons interested in becoming a candidate for the San Felipe Del Rio CISD School Board may pick up a packet in the Superintendent’s office in the SFDRCISD Student Performance and Administration Building located at 315 Griner St, or may download an application electronically on this website. The candidate’s packet contains instructions, an application, and forms required for filing.
To be eligible for, or elected or appointed to, the office of Trustee, a person must meet the eligibility requirements identified in accordance with Board Policy BBA(LEGAL). The location to file the applications is at the SFDRCISD Student Performance and Administration Building located at 315 Griner St. All Applications must be signed and notarized, clearly marked with the specific place for which the applicant is a candidate (Place II, VI, or VII).
SFDRCISD duties are limited to accepting and filing the various applications, affidavits, and statements, and noting the date and time of filing. It is the duty of the candidate to become familiar with the laws applicable to campaigns for office.
